Great Mythbusters Episode By Josh Vanderwerf In this episode, Mythbusters is trying to break the myth that an old technology that was used was detecting nearby armies using big pots. What they did is turn the pots into drums, then they put leather on it, then put holes in it to hear the armies off in the distance. The drums supposedly picked up vibrations. After making the big drums, they had a huge hold dug in the ground to place the drum down into. Then they went to a nearby mine and starting mining. They went to 3 different locations. There were two people listening in the hole that the drum was to see if they could here the mining. In the first location, it worked. The second location however, did not work because it was straight under the hole that the drum was in. The 3rd location worked. This proves that this method of detecting nearby armies works but not directly under it. The mythbusters also tested the “five second rule” myth. Before they did the experiment, they had to check the bacteria distribution on the floor. So they placed contact plates on the floor for five seconds each. After they did that they put the contact plates in an incubator with body temperature heat. Then they dropped some food on the floor and tested how much bacteria was on it. The dry food had less than a more moist food like pastrami. Food was placed on the floor for a few seconds and more than five seconds. Bacteria grew the same on each of the time intervals. Five second rule myth is busted. The mythbusters also tested a dog’s mouth is cleaner than a human’s mouth. The same method was used in the five second rule myth. Adam licked a contact plate and so did the dog. Adam’s mouth was dirtier than the dog’s. So a dog’s mouth is cleaner than a human’s mouth.
